Civic Hospital–McKellar Heights
West
Overview
Civic Hospital–McKellar Heights grew up around the Ottawa Civic Hospital, which opened in 1924 next to the Central Experimental Farm, established in 1889. Builder David Younghusband shaped much of the Civic Hospital area between 1925 and 1947 with small, highly skilled crews and quality materials, leaving a legacy of well-preserved Tudor-style houses under mature trees that the community actively works to protect. McKellar Heights, just west, adds solid mid-century homes and quiet, tree-lined streets minutes from downtown, with the Civic campus of The Ottawa Hospital still a defining local landmark.
