Resumen

Richmond and Munster are neighbouring villages southwest of Ottawa, both founded around 1818 and settled largely by disbanded Irish soldiers of the British Army; Richmond was named for the Duke of Richmond, and Munster for one of Ireland's four ancient kingdoms. Both stayed primarily farming communities until residential development picked up in the 1970s — Munster Hamlet, as it exists today, was largely built then as a model rural village. Richmond keeps a strong small-town identity anchored by its historic Village Core and the annual Richmond Fair, one of the area's longest-running community traditions.
