Aperçu

Bayshore–Britannia takes in one of Ottawa's oldest riverside communities alongside major postwar suburban and retail development. Britannia Village grew up around mills in the 1820s and became a popular Ottawa River day-trip destination in the early 1900s, when streetcars carried visitors out to the beach, pier, and pavilions of what is now Britannia Park; many original cottages were later converted into year-round homes. Suburban growth filled in the surrounding area from the 1950s onward, and the opening of Lincoln Fields (1972) and Bayshore (1973) shopping centres made this a major west-end retail destination alongside its waterfront parks.

The area is served by several OC Transpo bus routes and Transitway stations along Carling Avenue and Woodroffe Avenue, with riverside pathways connecting Britannia Park to the rest of the city's western waterfront trail network. Check octranspo.com for current routes and schedules.
