Aperçu

Stittsville traces its roots to 1818, when Irish immigrant Jackson Stitt built a sawmill and grist mill at what became the community's original crossroads. Rebuilt further south near the railway after an 1870 fire, it grew slowly as a village — incorporated in 1961, then folded into Goulbourn Township in 1974 and the City of Ottawa in 2001 — before the Queensway's extension in the 1970s and later suburban growth turned it into a west-end community of roughly 30,000. Despite that growth, the older village core along Main Street has kept a walkable strip of independent shops and restaurants that took generations to build.
