West Carleton is Ottawa's largest ward by land area, a mostly rural region in the city's northwest formed from the former townships of Torbolton, Huntley, and Fitzroy before amalgamation in 2001. It takes in several distinct communities: Carp, home to the popular Carp Farmers' Market; Constance Bay, with two beaches on the Ottawa River and a streetscape shaped by large, preserved oak trees; Fitzroy Harbour, next to a provincial park on the river; and the steadily growing village of Dunrobin. Farms, small towns, and estate subdivisions make up most of the ward, roughly 38 km west of downtown Ottawa.
